Mini-Midi Fun Run
Dochgarroch to Canal Park
Sunday, 13th April 2008
1.00pm
Both the Mini and Midi Sections have a lot requirements to meet from new strips to travel costs. So to help meet the costs involved the boys and girls from both sections are joining forces to raise funds with a fun run. The course will be from Dochgarroch along the canal back to the clubhouse at Canal Park and is 6km.
The participants need to be dropped off at Dochgarroch for the 1.00pm start and they will be fully supervised all the way back to the club. The full letter about the run and what the funds are for and a sponsor form can be downloaded below.

With a further ten pounds payable on the 8th March to help towards transport. Can all players that have given me there names but have still to pay please do so as soon as possible so we can get the application away.
New Strips
A big thank you to the SGL Group and Bob McClymont for their sponsorship of the new match strips. We will now be wearing the same tops as the first team.
Nairn Friendly
To give all our players more match practise we have organised to play Nairn on Sunday, 2nd December at 10.30am at Nairn Academy and this is for both P4/5 and P6/7 age groups. The matches should finish at 12.00. If anybody needs transport please speak to a coach. Nairn Academy is on Duncan Drive, which is on the right just before the Somerfield petrol station.

We will be running an extra training session on Saturday, 1st December at 12.30 to 13.45. This is to have some last minute practise before the Nairn game, but also to have the new strips officially presented to us and have a team photograph.

A big welcome to Highland RFC Mini & Micro rugby for season 2007/2008.This year we have a few changes to the coaching staff, with Chris Brogan, David Carson, John Carson, Iain Gordon and Peter Briggs moving on to the older section. Though hopefully we will still see them now and again. So a big thank you to them for everything they have done over the last 5-6 years. Their void will be filled with some new coaches taking up the challenge. But we are always looking for more. So if you’re able to help out in any way just speak to one of the coaches on Sunday.
Squads
We have three squads in our section:
Minis P6-7
Minis P4-5
Micro's P1-3.
Session Times
Sundays from 1-2pm for Micro's and from 1-2:15pm for Mini's.
Membership
We have an annual fee of £25 for Minis and £20 for Micros. We are happy for your child to try it out for 2-3 weeks before committing yourself to this year’s membership. Registration forms are available to download from highlands web site or you can pick one up at training.
Bad Weather
This year we have a bad weather phone line where we will record a message each week letting everyone know if we have to cancel. The decision will be taken around 10am on the Sunday. The number is 07511893004.
Coaching
All of our coaches have been through a minimum of the SRU Level 1 coaching course for Children & Adults, and some have further qualifications. As well all are approved through Disclosure Scotland. We also employ a Junior Development Officer who takes introductory coaching sessions at local Primary & Secondary schools.
Training Kit
We would ask that the children have suitable wear for the training sessions. This should include a waterproof jacket in case of inclement weather boots and a warm top. We would also recommend a gumshield for the Mini section. They should also take with them a non-fizzy drink.
Clothing
We have a new supplier this year providing a wide range of products I have included a flyer and an order form on the back of this news letter. We are hoping to have some samples soon to give you an idea of sizes. If you have any questions please just ask one of the coaches or contact Paul Schofield direct on 07712899553 after 6pm.
Fund raising
The last three years we have taken part in the Baxter’s 5K unfortunately this year it falls on the first weekend of the schools October holiday, and we have quite a few coaches unavailable. So we are looking at doing some other form of fund raising this year. We will have more details in future news letters.
Tournaments
As with previous seasons we hope to attend various tournaments with our p4/5 and p6/7. The first of which is a trip to Lochaber on Sunday the 20th of September. We are also considering a trip to Orkneys festival on Sunday the 28th of October more details to follow when we work out the logistics.
Highlands’s web site
The web site is an excellent way of keeping up to date with what’s happening at the club. You can access it through the SRU home page or by typing in this address:
/sru/community-rugby/club-rugby/highland/highland-home-page.cfm
Car parking
On Sunday the 2nd of September the monster 120k team challenge will be finishing in our car park around 1pm. So if you could park in the sports centre car park on that day it will ease the congestion.
Summary
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to speak to one of the coaches, and we look forward to seeing a lot of old face’s back and hopefully a lot of new ones.
