The Pathway Programme

(Scottish Exiles Element)

How does the programme work?

The Pathway

The Exiles is one of five "District" organisations that individually organise Pathway structures, from which the Scotland teams are selected. The Scottish Exiles strand of the Pathway is designed for players living in "Exile".

Representative Programme

The Scottish Exiles Representative element of the programme works as follows:

  1. Talent Identification

Players attend Regional Development Group sessions at venues across the country.

  1. Regional Development Group

If selected an invitation follows to become a member of a Regional Development Group (RDG).

  1. Exiles Representative Selection

Teams will be selected to play games as per the pyramidal programme for an age group.

4. Scotland International Selection

The representative games will be watched by international selectors and the successful players may be selected to represent Scotland.

Development Programme

The Scottish Exiles Development element of the programme works as follows to support the representative structure:

  1. Regional Development Group (RDG)

This meets 3-4 times per season and provides training and development information for players. There is in addition liaison with Elite academy structures existing across the country.

The RDG’s are being established across the country in conjunction with the elite clubs :

North East ( Newcastle) North West ( Sale)

Yorkshire ( Leeds)

West Midlands (Moseley) East Midlands ( Leicester)

South West ( Bath) South East ( London)

  1. Performance Development Group (PDG)

This is designed for the players who have the potential or have played for Scotland. The PDG is an "outreach" of the full Scotland academy and is an essential part of the development programme of potential international players.
