John Lewis, Scotland’s retailer of the year, is proud to be the official sponsor of the Youth League Cup and Schools 7s competitions. We recognise the importance of sports in the community and for young people, and aim to raise the profile and accessibility of rugby through our sponsorship scheme.

John Lewis has a strong heritage in Scotland and will work in close partnership with the Scottish Rugby Union to broaden our existing commitment to local communities.

The John Lewis sponsorship initiative will focus on the development of rugby at grassroots level and aim to provide more opportunities for young players throughout Scotland; ultimately increasing the current playing base and attracting more young people to the game.

John Lewis will also endeavour to ensure rugby plays an integral part in supporting initiatives aimed at making Scotland a healthier, more active nation.

During the last year these tournaments have played a key role in an impressive 19% increase in participation. This season, the John Lewis Youth League Cup and Schools 7s competitions are expected to involve over 18,000 young players, both boys and girls, which John Lewis is keen to boost even further.

In addition, John Lewis are also the official suppliers of the Scotland Team formalwear for the Rugby World Cup and will be providing 30 specially tailored suits for the squad.

John Lewis has been established in Scotland for 34 years, opening the first store in Edinburgh in 1973, and later expanding to additional outlets in Aberdeen and Glasgow. The John Lewis Partnership was named Scottish Retailer of the Year at the Daily Record’s Scottish Retail Excellence Awards (October 2006) and was also voted Britain’s Favourite Retailer 2007 in the Which customer satisfaction survey (February 2007).

This is John Lewis’s first sponsorship activity in Scotland, and an important step forward in our commitment to the communities in which we operate.
