  • Lift access and hearing loops in hospitality suites and office reception

Murrayfield Stadium, the home of Scottish Rugby is situated in Edinburgh's west end. The facilities for wheelchair users have been thought out well, with 124 dedicated disabled seats and many well placed separate adapted toilets close to all reserved areas. All areas are well signed (marked for future development).

Ticket information can be provided in Braille, large print and colour schemes.

Parking on non-match days is available via gate B on Roseburn Street. There is a plan to add some disabled spaces on the access roads within the stadium around the ground.

Parking on an event day is via the gate situated at the end of Baird Drive, to the west of the ground. There is a charge for non pre-registered disabled patrons parking on event days. Disabled parking is at the front of the car park, which is on the training pitches next to the stadium. A short wheel or walk across porta-path is required to the designated wheelchair access gate. Access can, if required, be gained through any other gate around the ground that is attended by a steward. Parking attendants are on hand to assist and check that only disabled badge holders gain access to the disabled parking area.

All disabled seating is in the west stand. There are a number of trackside seats available for wheelchair users and their companions which are accessible via wide ramps.

There are also wheelchair accessible seats on the first tier of the west stand. These are accessible via three lifts: one is situated immediately opposite the designated wheelchair access gate in the west stand and the other two are situated in the center of the north and south stands. A limited number of wheelchairs are available for loan but must be booked in advance. At all Murrayfield events, there are stewards to direct and assist disabled guests and there is also a disabled liaison officer - himself a wheelchair user!

Separate adapted toilets are placed very close to the reserved seating on the first tier of the west stand. The separate adapted toilets on the ground floor are within the west stand at the top of the wheelchair accessible ramps. A walk or wheel of around 50 metres is required depending on your seating position. All of these toilets have wheelchair access and arm pulls and future refurbishment of the facilities is planned.

All the conference and hospitality suites have excellent facilities. They include hearing loops, adapted toilets and are fully wheelchair accessible. Access to the suites is via the lifts previously mentioned, depending on the area of the stadium you are wishing to access. The main office reception also has a hearing loop.

Catering on match days is provided mainly by kiosks on the concourse around the west side of the stadium. There are also some corporate catering provisions in the car park behind the north stand. This is usually in a marquee and is across a gravel car park. Accessible matting can be installed. Vendors do attend the disabled areas to take orders.

Murrayfield stadium has recently undergone an accessibility audit. As a result a plan is in place to make further reasonable adjustments to accessibility in order to ensure compliance to the Disability Discrimination Act, which comes into force next year.
