Advanced Coaching Programme

The Advanced Coaching programme is available to all coaches of mini, youth and adult rugby who have completed the Aspiring Coaching Programme or the UKCC level 2. Coaches must be minimum 18 years of age to complete the course and must be actively coaching within a club or school.


The Advanced Coaching programme aims to equip coaches with advanced practical coaching skills and tools to enhance their coaching and the player experience, covering the following key areas:

  • Leadership and culture
  • Tactical decision making
  • Coaching philosophy
  • Game planning and tactics
  • Skill acquisition and decision making
  • Observation and feedback skills
  • Creating the right environment
  • Technical Blueprint ‘The Scottish Way’
  • Reflective practice


During the 2020-21 season, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Advanced Coaching programme will be delivered via a mixture of taught online and face-to-face practical modules. The programme will take 12 months minimum to complete and involve support from a trained Scottish Rugby coach developer.
