2022 FOSROC Super6 Team of the Week | Round 6

2022 FOSROC Super6 Team of the Week | Round 6

Following the weekend's round of FOSROC Super6 fixtures, we’ll bring you a Team of the Week selected from those who stood out for us over the weekend.

The sixth round of the 2022 FOSROC Super6 Championship kicked off on Friday where Heriot’s Rugby took the win away to Southern Knights (21-31), Watsonians won against Edinburgh rivals Boroughmuir Bears at Myreside (31-10) and Ayrshire Bulls won convincingly against Stirling Wolves at Bridgehaugh (20-64).

FRONT ROW
Jamie Jack was dominant in the scrum for Southern Knights, helping his side win several penalties, which earns him the number one jersey. His prop partner this week is Martin McGinley, who came off the bench to play just under an hour for Boroughmuir Bears and worked hard in the loose.

Sandwiched between them at hooker is Heriot’s Rugby’s Michael Liness, who scored two tries and carried hard throughout at The Greenyards.

SECOND ROW
Alex Samuel put in a tireless shift for Ayrshire Bulls in the second row. He is joined by Ronan Seydak of Heriot’s, who was also constantly involved on both sides of the ball.

BACK-ROW
This week’s back row is fully made up of FOSROC Player of the Match winners. Rudi Brown scored two tries and made several line breaks and turnovers at blindside flanker for the Knights. Blair MacPherson is asked to move to openside flanker after another strong performance for the Bulls, particularly in attack.

At number 8, Ben Muncaster scored a try and put in an assured performance for Watsonians at Myreside.

HALF-BACKS

Rory Brand pulled the strings for Watsonians and earns the scrum half spot ahead of Charlie Shiel, who is unlucky to miss out.

Jack Bergin and Bruce Houston were both unlucky to miss out on the 10 jersey, which goes to Will Hunt who was introduced midway through the first half for the Bulls and played his part in several of their tries.

CENTRE
At inside centre, Connor Eastgate got Watsonians going forward and into good positions in attack. His centre partner this week is Ryan Southern, who used his pace to get his side over the gain line on several occasions.

BACK-THREE
Sam Pecqueur broke the line on the left wing several times for Heriot’s, scoring one try and setting up another with a kick charge down. On the right wing, Aaron Tait showed his credentials as he scored twice for the Bulls in quick succession.

At full back, Dom Coetzer also grabbed a try and was a real threat for Watsonians.
