2022 FOSROC SUPER6 TEAM OF THE WEEK | ROUND 8

2022 FOSROC SUPER6 TEAM OF THE WEEK | ROUND 8

Following the weekend's round of FOSROC Super6 fixtures, we’ll bring you a Team of the Week selected from those who stood out for us over the weekend.

Round eight of the 2022 FOSROC Super6 Championship kicked off on Friday where Stirling Wolves got their first win of the championship away to Boroughmuir Bears (16-28), Ayrshire Bulls were winners in Edinburgh against Heriot’s Rugby (7-33) and Watsonians stayed at the top of the table after beating Southern Knights at Myreside (38-14).

FRONT ROW

Harrison Courtney came off the bench and carried hard for Watsonians, earning him the number one jersey. His fellow prop this week is Murphy Walker, who also came off the bench and helped turn the game around at Meggetland to help Stirling Wolves to their first win.

At hooker, Angus Fraser was the FOSROC Player of the Match and scored the Wolves’ first try to start their comeback in Edinburgh.

SECOND ROW

Jamie Berrisford earns his spot in the second row for immense shift he put in for Watsonians and for being his game’s FOSROC Super6 Player of the Match. He is joined by Alex Samuel for his performance in Ayrshire Bulls’ win at Goldenacre.

BACK ROW

It was impossible to choose between two openside flankers, so both have found a space in the back row. Gregor Hiddleston is asked to move to blindside after a stellar shift for the Wolves, scoring the bonus-point try. Lewis McNamara was equally important for the Bulls and earns the openside spot.

At number 8, Rudi Brown carried well and scored for Southern Knights and regains a spot in the team after appearing in round six.

HALF BACKS

Ayrshire Bulls’ Cam Jones retains the scrum half spot for the second week running for his role in their win.

Coming up against the international class of Duncan Weir, it was Jack Bergin who stood out with another 100% record on the tee and a wonderful looping pass out to the left wing for the Bears’ try.

CENTRES

Wolves’ captain Marcus Holden lead by example in the second half, grabbing control of the game and scoring their third try. At thirteen, Angus Guthrie was unlucky to miss out last week but scored a fantastic try for Watsonians, dancing around the defence, and caused problems throughout the contest for the Knights.

BACK THREE

There was only one choice for the left wing spot; Eli Caven scored four tries and bagged the FOSROC Player of the Match award for the Bulls. On the right, Lomond MacPherson scored an excellent intercept try and worked hard for Watsonians.

At full back, Matt Davidson was bright in attack and hard-working in defence for Heriot’s Rugby.
