Scottish Rugby Referees: Mike Adamson & Hollie Davidson
Hosts Al Kellock, Chris Paterson and Rachel Malcolm catch up with Scottish Rugby referee's Mike Adamson and Hollie Davidson for our first podcast recording of 2021.
"I don't know about you but I found that genuinely fascinating, I loved speaking to them, it's such a massive part of the game." - Al Kellock
Mike and Hollie discuss their recent appointments, the changes to training and preparation within the Scottish Rugby set-up and how they have had to adapt their on-field refereeing due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Hollie tells us her pathway from player to referee, the stages in her career building up to her recent appointments and how she is hopeful for the future and for the Olympics and Women's Rugby World Cup this year.
Mike, who will officiate England v Italy in round two of the Guinness Six Nations, gave us an insight into his transition from Scotland 7s to becoming an international referee, the current Scottish Rugby referee system, the team culture and the need to inspire the next generation.
"It underlines how difficult a job they have, they have got to referee to what they are seeing in the moment, with a team of four and with TMO's at times, law changes and variations it's a tough gig and usually everything is scrutinised when there is a mistake." - Chris Paterson
Hosts Al, Chris and Rachel re-group to discuss the recent rugby signings for Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby and the announcements made by both EPCR and Six Nations to postpone current tournaments.
