Caledonia Youth Cup Finals to take place in Perth

The largest Youth Rugby Finals Day in the country will be hosted by Scottish Rugby, Perthshire RFC and Perth & Kinross Council on Sunday 28 April on the playing fields of the North Inch, Perth.

A total of 30 teams from across the Caledonia region will congregate in Perth. The sides have competed in a series of regional leagues and then Cup, Shield, and Bowl knockout rounds, culminating in 18 boy’s and 12 girls’ teams reaching Sunday’s Finals Day event.

The series of games will be played at three intervals, with the first kicking off at 11am, and to accommodate the number of finals at each interval, Perth & Kinross Council will be reinstating the pitch used by Glasgow Warriors in their pre-season match against Harlequins.

Perthshire Rubgy’s Midi/Schools section manager Eamon O’Brien commented, “Perthshire Rugby is delighted to be hosting this year's Caledonia Cup Finals in the heart of Perth and Scotland. This fantastic opportunity is the icing on the cake of a fantastic 150th season which has seen the club reach new heights.

“Perthshire's Midi Section has just achieved promotion to play Shogun Conference rugby next season - a fantastic achievement reflecting the quality of the youth rugby product available at Perthshire Rugby and the hard work of our coaches, players and volunteers.

“We look forward to welcoming competing clubs, players and supporters and look forward to a great day of rugby on the North Inch.

“I wish all involved the very best of luck, the day will no doubt hold many successes but most importantly it will be a fun, exciting and enjoyable event for all involved.”

They will also be investing some additional resources to introduce a new fifth pitch which will be adopted and utilised next season by Perthshire RFC, to meet the demands of their expanding mini and youth sections.

Ahead of the event Vicky Cox, Scottish Rugby Competitions and Compliance Manager, said, ‘The Caledonia Youth Finals Day promises to be another exciting event in the Scottish Rugby calendar.

“With teams from all over the Caledonia region competing it will no doubt be an event to remember and I’m thrilled that for the first time the Girls U18 and U15 Cup, Shield and Bowl will be contested alongside the boy’s competitions.”

In recognition of the event, Scottish Rugby will be displaying the Calcutta Cup in the main marquee, from 2.30pm onwards, to allow those present on the day to see the trophy in person.
