Biggar won the U18 Girls Club Cup Final in dramatic fashion after a try in the dying minutes saw them beat a resilient Stirling County side at BT Murrayfield.

With five minutes remaining Biggar trailed by a point having held a 20-7 lead early in the second-half.

Two converted tries by Stirling had brought them back into the match and as the game closed out it was Biggar who held their nerve to keep possession in the opposition half and create the opening for Feebi Robinson to seal the win.

After a competitive opening to the game it was Stirling who scored first after 18 minutes and had another try disallowed for Laura Manson on the half-hour mark.

But Biggar fought back with two tries in quick succession from full-back Geraldine Kimm and centre Rachel Philipps.

The two conversion attempts both hit the posts to give Biggar a 10-7 half-time lead.

Biggar started the second-half as they ended the first and scored a further two tries shortly after the restart through Julia Bell and Emelia Knights.

Another conversion hit the posts and another skewed wide to give them a 20-7 lead.

Stirling though were down but not out and pounced on a poorly-fielded restart by Biggar to build pressure in the opposition 22.

It was Stirling number 8 Evie Gallagher that sparked the comeback with a try on 51 minutes, which Evie Wills converted to bring the score back to 20-14.

Two minutes later Stirling thought they had scored again but the referee awarded a penalty as they infringed inches from the Biggar line.

Stirling had momentum now and played with growing confidence, which saw Evie Gallagher grab her second with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Wills again converted to take Stirling into the lead for the first time since the first half (21-20).

It looked like the three conversions which hit the post would come back to haunt Biggar – who were a point down going into the last ten minutes – despite scoring four tries.

They dug deep though and settled their game in the final phases. Passes started going to hand again and runners were breaking tackles.

As they gained territory deeper and deeper in the Stirling half they put the ball through the backs for Feebi Robinson, who had played well throughout, to attack out wide and score.

Kaylee Fraser’s conversion went over to give a 27-20 lead with three minutes remaining.

Stirling had one last attack but when a pass failed to go to hand the game belonged to Biggar.

U15 Cup match report

Stirling County U15 continued their impressive season with a 57-7 victory in the Club Cup Final against Caithness.

The County side ran in nine tries, with Abbie Ledwidge slotting six conversions.

It was the fourth time in the competition they had broken the 50-point barrier and their ability to keep the ball alive in contact with direct running caused Caithness problems from the outset.

Caithness’ Aimee Curliss became the first player to score against Stirling in the competition when she drew the scores level after 10 minutes, after Brooke McDonald had got Stirling on the scoreboard in the opening exchanges.

From them on Stirling County never looked back and by half-time had built up a 26-7 lead, with other tries from Abbie Ledwidge, Mia White, and Player of the Match, scrum-half Rhea Clarke.

The second-half followed a similar pattern with Caithness creating chances in attack but having any mistakes punished by Stirling who ran in tries by Eilidh Fleming, Orla Proctor, a brace by Jenna Duncan and a long distance run in by fly-half Laura Reid-Kay.

U18 Shield match report

In the U18 Girls Shield match Annan and Cartha Queen’s Park played out a tight West coast derby.

There was never more than a score in it until the final stages with Cartha always holding a slender lead.

From a half-time score of 7-5 to Cartha the second-half saw them always keep their noses in front to finally seal the win.

U15 Shield match report

On the back pitches Lismore and Highland’s U15’s played out a thriller in the Club Shield Final which ended 33-32 to Highland

The Caledonia side Highland had led 28-19 at half-time but in a game which paused twice for injuries they held on to deny the Edinburgh side who pushed them all the way.
