The quarter-finals of the Sarah Beaney Cup – brought to you by BBC Alba, are taking place across the country on Sunday 7 April.

Reigning Champions Hillhead Jordanhill are hosting Stirling County RFC to play for a place in the semi-finals.

The home team, who received a bye into the quarter-finals after topping their pool stage, will be without some of their key players. Abi Evans, Hannah Smith and Louise McMillan have all been in Hong Kong playing for Scotland Women 7s in the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series Qualifier.

Stirling County’s Head Coach Rob Storey is still expecting a touch game when they travel to Glasgow. He said, “We are really excited about this match. Hills are always a difficult team to play, especially at home, but we really hope to push them closer than ever before this time”

Garioch will be travelling to Ayr for their quarter-final. Garioch, who have seen a host of new members join them this year, credit the Sarah Beaney Cup as an ideal way for the whole team to develop.

Captain Jess Silcocks said, “This season our numbers have almost doubled to those last year, and the cup has been an excellent platform for all levels to play. We are now looking forward to a competitive match where everything is to play for, to put everything we have practiced into the game.”

It is Garioch’s first time in the Cup competition and they have been incredibly strong in their journey so far. Neither Garioch nor Ayr have conceded any points yet in their previous Cup matches.

Howe of Fife Harlequins will be facing Heriot’s Rugby club in their quarter-final match. For Howe Harlequins, this is the first time they have made it to this stage in the competition.

Heriot’s, who are newly formed this year, are excited to have made it through to this stage as well. Rhona Hume, Director of Women and Girls rugby at the club said, “We have a young team mixed with some good experience and whilst the challenge ahead is enormous, we are relishing the test.”

In the final quarter-final match, Edinburgh sides Watsonians FC and Corstorphine RFC will face each other at Myreside.

Eric Jones Head Coach for the Cougars said, “We’re looking forward to heading over to Myreside for the Quarter Final of the Cup. We’ve had some very good games against Watsons over the past couple of years and are hoping for the same again.

“We’re still building a squad and this will be a step up from our last 5 games, so we’ll need to meet that challenge.”

The finals of the Sarah Beaney Cup, Plate and Bowl will all be played as part of Silver Saturday at BT Murrayfield. The Sarah Beaney Cup final will be broadcast on BBC ALBA.

The Cup competition is named in memory of a Murrayfield Wanderers player who tragically died in 2005.

The Plate and Bowl competitions are also heading into the quarter-final stage this weekend.

Reigning Women’s Bowl Champions Oban Lorne will kick start the weekend with a rescheduled match on Saturday against Shetland in the Plate competition. Glasgow University, 2018 Women’s Plate winners, will have to wait another week for their quarter-final match to see if they will be taking on Oban Lorne or Shetland Ladies for a place in the Plate semi-final.
