Scottish Rugby announces BT Premiership pro-player draft

28 Aug 2017

Scotland’s professional players have been drafted to clubs in the BT Premiership ahead of the new season which kicks-off this weekend (Saturday 2 September).

All ten Premiership clubs participated in the draft, with some 98 professional players from Edinburgh Rugby, Glasgow Warriors and Scotland 7s split amongst them.

Players will be made available to BT Premiership clubs each week, dependent on the selection of pro team squads.

Head of Academy and Performance Programmes, Stephen Gemmell, said: “The pro-player draft provides a platform for integration between the BT Premiership and the professional game and opportunities for our developing and established professional players.

“Scotland’s premier club competition provides a competitive environment and the drafting of professional players from Edinburgh Rugby, Glasgow Warriors and Scotland 7s helps to bridge the gap between the top tier of the club game and professional rugby.”
