TENNENTS PREM | Stirling run in seven tries to defeat Boroughmuir

Stirling County were the visitors to Meggetland on Saturday for the Round 16 encounter against Boroughmuir in the Tennent’s Premiership.

A good turnout of supporters were treated to an action-packed encounter which yielded 11 tries on a brisk afternoon in Edinburgh.

In a fast and frenetic start Boroughmuir quickly got themselves on the front-foot. Greg Cannie went over the white-wash after just 4 minutes to leave Gavin Parker to slot the extras.

Stirling’s response was immediate. A powering run by Ali Mackie brushed off two tackles down the left wing before a great off-load in the tackle found the hands of Peter Jericevich to race in. Andrew Goudie was unable to convert from the left touchline (7-5).

Boroughmuir were soon up back up the pitch, spending a considerable amount of time in their opponents 22, but Stirling’s sturdy defence held strong.

It was the visitors who were to register the next score after being awarded a penalty try following a scrum which surged towards the line.

Stirling now had their tails up and capitalised on their momentum as Ewan Magarvie claimed two tries before the break – his second came courtesy of a terrific back-door pass by Craig Robertson.

A try by Rob Ingles on the stroke of half-time, which Gavin Parker duly converted, ensured that Boroughmuir would go into the break 13 points behind (14-26).

Jonny Hope was given a yellow card for Stirling at the start of the second half, with Boroughmuir taking full advantage.

Rory Drummond found a gap and crashed his way through a number of tackles to score. Parker converted to reduce the gap to just five points (21 – 26).

A penalty from the boot of Goudie gave Stirling a bit of breathing space before Jericevich grabbed his second try of the day.

The tries continued to flow, with Boroughmuir showing some impressive attacking spirit with Jonny Matthews going over, with the score 28-36.

Stirling’s Craig Robertson ensured there would be no come-back from the home side with a quick brace of tries in the closing stages to seal a fine performance by the visitors, giving them the win 28-46.
