An Economics graduate from Leicester University, Tonks qualifies to play for Scotland through his Ayrshire-born mother, Lena, and made his international debut against Samoa on the quadrangular tournament in South Africa in June 2013.
He made three appearances in Scotland's 2015 RBS 6 Nations campaign, coming off the bench against Italy to make his first home start, prior to appearances against England and Ireland.
Tonks was subsequently named in Vern Cotter's extended squad for Rugby World Cup 2015, starting two summer test matches at stand-off (against Ireland) and full-back (against Italy).
Born in Pretoria, South Africa, Greig Tonks moved to England aged two and settled in Nottingham before being selected for the Leicester Tigers Academy.
One of Edinburgh Rugby’s first signings for the 2012/13 season, the highly-rated, Scottish qualified full-back committed his future to the club with a move from Northampton Saints.
The versatile back earned his first senior international honour for Scotland A with aplomb in 2013, in the 13-9 win over England Saxons (the side's first win on English soil on the sixth time of trying).
