Henry Benjamin Pyrgos made his Scotland debut as a second-half substitute for Mike Blair against New Zealand in the first Autumn Test of 2012.

The same switch was made in the next game against South Africa in which Pyrgos scored his first try for Scotland, before adding a second as part of a stunning fightback, which helped his country post a 21-19 victory over Argentina in the third Test of Scotland's 2014 summer tour.

Injury curtailed his involvement in the 2015 RBS 6 Nations however - after helping Glasgow lift the PRO12 title - Pyrgos was back on the scoresheet of that year's opening Summer Test against Ireland, in which Pyrgos made his first start as captain.

He scored his third try in the Dublin Test match before scoring against Italy in Turin the following week and subsequently earning selection for the Rugby World Cup 2015, captaining the side in the win over USA.

An injury exacerbated in the RWC ruled Pyrgos out for much of the following season, and the majority 2016 RBS 6 Nations, returning as an unused replacement in the final championship match against Ireland in Dublin.

Pyrgos was back fit and in the squad for the summer tour to Japan, captaining the side (his third cap as skipper) and kicking nine points in the second Test.

Through the ranks

A former pupil of Bryanston School in Dorset, Henry is eligible for Scotland through his mum, who was born in Grangemouth, while his grandparents were born in Dundee.

He represented Scottish Exiles at under-18, under-19, and under-20 levels, as well as Northampton Saints’ under-18 and under-19 teams and, during a visit to New Zealand, he was included in the Wanganui province’s youth squad.

Henry enjoyed a winning start in Scotland’s colours in the 18-17 victory against Wales in the Six Nations Under-20 Championship match at McDiarmid Park, Perth, in February 2009.

He went on to play in all 10 of Scotland’s under-20 internationals that year, and made his A team debut in the 25-0 win over USA Eagles in November 2010.
