Matthew McGregor Taylor represented Queensland at under-16 and under-21 as well as playing for the Australian Barbarians.

Qualifying to play for Scotland through his mother and father, both of whom where born in Dunfermline, Matt arrived in Scotland in 1999 to play for Aberdeen GSFP, before securing a contract with Edinburgh Rugby in May 2000 and transferred to the Borders in summer 2002.

He represented Scotland Development XV and Scotland A in the wins over Tonga and Argentina in November 2001 and Italy A in February 2002.

His last game for Scotland A was as a replacement in the November 2002 win over Fiji. Taylor returned to his roots and helped coach the Queensland Reds to the Super 15 title in 2011.

He then joined Scottish Rugby in the summer of 2012 as Glasgow Warriors assistant coach and Scotland’s defence coach.

The Warriors 2015 PRO12 triumph means the defence coach now has the accolade of two winner's medals from different divisions by the age of just 42.
