Evie Tonkin first started playing rugby when she was 13 at Keswick Rugby Club.

Meryl captained the U18 7s squad in the summer of 2018 before her first call up to the Scotland Women 7s squad in June 2019. Her debut was at the French leg of the World Rugby Womens Sevens Series in Biarritz. This was also Scotland's debut in the Series.

Meryl started playing rugby at age 6 in the Netherlands where she lived until she was 13. When she moved to Edinburgh, she started playing with the Murrayfield Wanderers Girls team.

Meryl started studying Biological Sciences at Edinburgh University in September 2019. She has also been capped twice for Scotland U18 in Touch Rugby.
