Ciaran Beattie succeeded John Dalziel as Head Coach of Scotland 7s in the summer of 2019.

Beattie represented Scotland at age-grade level as part of a group of players containing namesake Johnnie Beattie and Greig Laidlaw, with whom he vied for a scrum-half berth in the 2002 national U18 set-up.

Spells with Border Reivers and Edinburgh Rugby were played out in tandem with a Scotland 7s career culminating in a place in Rob Moffat’s squad for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006.

The Selkirk man has an abundance of coaching experience in multiple disciplines and was formerly Assistant Coach of Scotland Women as well as leading Loughborough University’s rugby programme.

In a distinguished and varied career, Beattie has also been defence coach at Melrose, a performance analyst with Scottish Rugby and even worked in Judo as a strength & conditioning coach.
