Back-row Matt Fagerson become the 1096th player to represent Scotland when he started the national team's 30-29 defeat to USA in Houston, Texas on the 2018 summer tour. He is Scotland's youngest ever number 8 to date (at 19y 335d).
He is second Scotland forward to be capped as a teenager in 67 years (lock Jonny Gray the other in 2013) and just the third teenager to play for Scotland in the pro era after Gray and Stuart Hogg.
Matt is younger brother of Scotland internationalist Zander. They became the 48th brothers to play for Scotland and the 22nd pair to play together in the same Test match against USA on the 2018 summer tour.
Together with brother George and Pete Horne (who also started that day) they are be the most recent recent pair of brothers to start at Test for Scotland since the Bullochs and Leslies in 2001.
In fact, it was be only the eighth time in close to 700 Scotland Tests when two sets of brothers have been on the field at the same time, with Fagersons and Hornes joining the Evans and Lamont brothers (2010), Bulloch and Leslie brothers (2001), Milne and Hastings brothers (1990), and the Neilson and Orr brothers, who did so four times (1891-1892).
Through the ranks...
Fagerson made his Warriors debut in the 2016/17 pre-season fixture vs Canada 'A', scoring a try in the process and was called into an extended Scotland squad for the August camp while still a BT Sport Academy player.
A physical back-rower, Matt has represented Scotland at U16 and U18 level and plays his club rugby for Glasgow Hawks. He was named in the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy Stage 3 Player list for the 2016/17 season.
Fagerson represented Scotland under-20s in the 2017 World Rugby under-20s Championship in Georgia, helping the team finish fifth.
